- Tahap I: Kualifikasi

- Memenuhi masa mukim 2 semester.

The Physics Doctoral Program is aiming to educate graduates who can conduct research independently in physics. The academic load for the program are 40 credits for students wih master’s program in physics and 52 credits for students with non-physics master’s degree. The Physics Doctoral Program curriculum structure follows the general guidelines of ITB Graduate School.
The 2013 curriculum of Physics Doctoral Program is divided into 4 steps:
- Step 1: Qualification
- Step 2: Proposal Preparation
- Step 3: Research

*All yet to be taken physics master’s courses when students obtained their master’s degree can be the elective courses for doctoral program.
Students may take other courses from outside Physics Department as long as their choices are accepted by the departmental advisors and the head of physics doctoral program.
Total: 6 Semesters, 40 credits
Compulsory Course(s): 34 credits
Elective Course(s): 6 credits
A few things to note about the above curriculum
- Students who have taken the course Research Methodology (both 2008 or 2013 curriculum) while taking the master’s program don’t need to take FI7001 Research Methodology. In return, students have to take electives to fulfill the minimum required credits to finish the doctoral program.
- Qualification Exam measures a doctoral student’s comprehension of fundamental physics concepts and principles. Students who pass the Qualification Exam will have the status doctoral candidate and do the research structurally under the supervision of promotors and co-promotors determined by FMIPA KPPS (Committee of Graduate Program).
- Students who already get a minimum score of B for each master’s program compulsory course are considered qualified.
- The course Case Study is an independent work in a specific topic under a lecturer’s supervision. Since the lecturer is certainly an expert in the topic, he doesn’t have to be a dissertation promotor. Basically, the student has a freedom to choose a topic although he/she may discuss it with his/her supervisor before choosing it.
- The courses Proposal Preparation and Research and Progress Seminar I-IV will be graded on progress reports and seminar presentations conducted in the end of semester.
- The courses Preliminary Research I, Preliminary Research II, Advanced Research I, and Advanced Research II are offered as elective courses that can be taken by doctoral students who go through PMPD (Integrated Master’s and Doctoral Program).
- Students may take physics master’s program courses as long as they never take them while they were master’s students.
To finish the Doctoral Program, the 2013 curriculum requires a student to do the following:
- Finishes each determined step.
- Writes dissertations and defends them in dissertation exams.
- Finishes a minimum of 40 credits if he/she has physics master’s degree and 52 credits if he/she has non-physics master’s degree.
- Publishes scientific articles internationally as determined by ITB SPs (Graduate School) and FMIPA (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) KPPS.
- Fulfils the two-semester coursework period.
