Abstract

The possibility of a resurgence of airborne diseases such as COVID-19 is recognized as a global risk. Our last resort against airborne diseases is lockdown. It is important to find alternatives to lockdown that restrict personal freedom and cause huge economic losses. The possibility of realizing a social system that can control COVID-19 with the spread of Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPRs) is discussed. The major points of this lecture are: (1) If all the general citizen uses high-performance medical PAPR daily, the infection will be resolved promptly. (2) PAPR, which has the same virus shielding performance as high-performance medical PAPRs, can be mass-produced at low cost. (3) Mandatory PAPR installation at a certain rate for the general citizen can be an alternative to lockdown. (4) There is a possibility that a social system that can control COVID-19 and other airborne diseases can be constructed by means of popularizing high-performance, low-cost PAPRs.
